PRESS CONFERENCE: CONDEMN KILLINGS OF KASHMIRI YOUTH, Marathi Patrakar, Mumbai

BHARAT BACHAO ANDOLAN

(for a National Struggle against Imperialism & Zionism)

Venue: Marathi Patrakar Sangh, CST, Mumbai.

Date: 6th July, 2010 (Tuesday) / Time: 4-5pm

WE CONDEMN THE KILLINGS OF INNOCENT KASHMIRI CIVILIANS

BY THE J&K POLICE & THE CRPF.

:SPEAKERS:

BRIGADIER SUDHIR SAWANT: He has been forthright on his views on the suppression of Democracy in J&K & has been instrumental in successfully rehabilitating more than 8000 militants for which has faced a lot of opposition from the Right-Wing. He will also share his experiences in the counter-insurgency operations in J&K.

DILNAZ BOGA: She is a journalist from Bombay, currently based in Kashmir since 2009. She is working for a local newspaper 'Kashmir Monitor' and is also writing for a few international publications from Kashmir. She specialises in human interest stories and women's and children's issues. She has also worked in Bombay, for the 'Times of India Group' and 'Hindustan Times' for over a decade. She has studied the problems of Jammu & Kashmir during her Masters in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Sydney and has specialised in conflict reporting. She has also reported from other conflict regions in India like the naxal-affected districts and the North-East.

FEROZE MITHIBORWALA: National President of the Bharat Bachao Andolan.

The current spate of arbitrary killings by the security forces, have once again brought the State of J&K to the boil. The right to protest is the fundamental right of every Indian. The Constitution of India unambiguously supports that very right, as the expression of dissent lies at the core of democracy. After the killings of 16 minors in Kashmir by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the government is taking the easy way out and blaming the Lashkar-i-Taiyaba and the ISI for inciting violence in the Valley. The Indian Corporate Media is joining the propaganda chorus and giving this civil unrest a completely different colour by painting lies & innuendo on their TV screens.

The people are protesting the unprovoked shooting of children who were not involved in any anti-national activities. Funeral processions have been shot upon in the Valley in the last few days. They have not even spared journalists. We immediately condemn the killings of innocents, especially since January 2010 & we demand a Judicial Inquiry into the deaths of the minors and we reiterate that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have a right to protest and not be massacred for expressing their democratic aspirations.

The kind of work you are doing is really appreciable during the times when bias, subjectivity and orcherasterated propaganda is calling the roost in all parts of the country which consequently has put kashmiris to the wall.
